30, a collection of poems by Jaachi Anyatonwu banner

after a long day
of back-breaking works

& spirit-killing words from boss
& clients ignorant, but always right

& unending demands
of feuding ends that hate to meet

at the door were spread petals
in her arms she welcomed him

& with the most soothing of words
she said “welcome home, odogwu”

off flew the stress, the anxieties, the fears
from the therapeutic light and love

& a weary soldier takes off a gloomy cloak
& wears the smile his love sew

sometimes, that feminine voice can just be all
a man needs to find peace
& joy
& rest
at the end of the day
