ABA IS A STORY

Have you ever been to my Aba
Have you ever seen my Aba
Have you ever felt my Aba

Aba is a song
A song that rings in every heart
Like Ariaria – Faulks – Okigwe
Ngwa-ro, Ngwa-ro, Ngwa-ro, Ngwa roooooad
Ibada, Ibada, Ibada, Ibadaaan
Oboha, Oboha, Oboha, Obohia
Abayi, Abayi, Abayi
Ogbohi, Ogbohi, Ogbohi, Ogbohiiiii
And so flows the melody

Aba is a place
A place where dreams find face
Dancing own pace

Aba is a story
A story that lives in every heart
Drawing tales from the past
To fatten the pool of memory
The story of the burning hunger of the Ohuhu
And the hasty steps of the Ome Ngwa Ngwa
Of how siblings were scattered on either sides of a river’s wall

Aba is the story of that settlement at Okpuala
How expansion woke Exodus
Behind the tail of the great Enyi
The mysterious elephant that led here
Aba is the story of the great Oha tree
Yes, it no longer stabs this land with its roots
But it was more than a deity
It was a towering symbol of unity
Aba is the story of Osusu, Eziama, Ohazu
The story of Mr. Faulks and the road he answers
The story of Ekeoha and the slaves that were goods in her stalls
The story of humanity melting into humanity
Smelting gains and losses in Ariaria and her sisters
Aba is the story of Ogbonna
Oguikpe Nkwogu
The story of Emejiaka
The story of Dike
The story of Ikonne Nwachukwu
But Aba is also the story of women
Of how courage sank the axe of oppression

Have you ever been to my Aba
Have you ever seen my Aba
Have you ever felt my Aba

Aba is the story of you
Aba is the story of me
Aba is the story of us.
