Today, I let go of Resentment and Nurture Compassion

Hope this musing finds you in good spirits on this fine day. Today’s the day we shake off the old dust of bitterness and water the seeds of compassion within us.

“Today, I let go of resentment and nurture compassion.”

Jaachị Anyatọnwụ

Now, I know what you’re thinking; “Easier said than done, Jaachị!” And you’re right. But here’s the thing—holding onto resentment is like carrying a backpack full of rocks, except these rocks aren’t helping you hike up a mountain—they’re weighing you down, making every step feel like a slog through quicksand.

Resentment Fetters

Resentment is heavy, it’s exhausting, and frankly, it doesn’t do your back any favours. Resentment doesn’t serve us. It festers, it breeds negativity, and it holds us back from experiencing life fully.

So, how about we set those rocks down? Imagine how light you’ll feel, how much springier your step will be. And in place of that weight, why not pick up something a little more nourishing? Like compassion. It’s like nourishing meal for the soul, really. It fills you up, warms you from the inside, and best of all, it’s calorie-free.

Nurture Compassion

Compassion allows you to see things from a different perspective, to understand that everyone is fighting their own battles, and to respond with kindness rather than bitterness.

Now, I’m not saying it’s easy. It’s a bit like watering a plant—you don’t see the results right away, but with consistent care, that little sprout grows into something beautiful.

Remember, compassion isn’t just about being kind to others; it’s also about being kind to yourself. So, give yourself a break. Forgive that little slip-up from last week (we all have them), smile at your reflection a bit more, and pat yourself on the back for being a pretty awesome human being.

Water your heart with compassion today. Give yourself permission to let go of resentment and embrace understanding with open arms. Who knows? You might just find that the world looks a little brighter when we choose compassion over bitterness.

Wishing you a day filled with lightness and kindness.
