Trust me, these habits have been proven by me to be super productive. I recommend.
You didn’t ask, but I’d like to spill the beans on my daily habits that keep me from going completely crazy while trying to meet those pesky deadlines I set for myself.
The 10-minute miracle
I start my day by writing for a whopping 10 minutes. I know, I know, it’s a marathon. And, most of the time, it’s gibberish, gibberish, gibberish. But trust me, it’s a great way to get the creative juices flowing and convince myself that I’m actually doing something productive.
The daily grind
I try to write at the same time every day, mostly because my brain is a creature of habit and would probably forget what day it is otherwise. Never ever missed my morning writing ritual. The consistency thrilleth, I kid thee not.
Reading is the ultimate procrastination technique
Seriously, man, reading is the best way to avoid doing actual work. But it’s also super important for writers, so I’m just going to call it “research” and pretend I’m being productive. Whatever!
Break time, baby!
Taking breaks is crucial, mostly because it gives me an excuse to watch movies and scroll through Twitter. Sorry, X. But seriously, taking short breaks helps me recharge and come back to my writing with fresh eyes and a slightly less frazzled brain.
The editing struggle is real
I’m a big fan of reviewing my work and making revisions, mostly because it’s a great way to procrastinate some more. But, at least I’m getting better at finding creative ways to say the same thing over and over again. Yeah? Yeah!
These daily habits have helped me stay (somewhat) sane and productive—not for writing alone but also for every creative activity I engage in—and I hope they do the same for you.
